AUSTRALIAN CEDAR SECRETAIRE BOOKCASE
AUSTRALIAN CEDAR SECRETAIRE BOOKCASE
This cedar bookcase was originally built into a wall and subsequently removed and refitted into a partially recessed wall. The customer had requested it to be turned into a free standing bookcase. The top section fortunately was basically complete and once the ply board was removed the piece had solid cedar sides. The base however was mainly the front and a basic frame once the ply board was removed - this was repaired and re-glued. New sides, back, plinth, internal base and shelf were fitted. Mouldings were then made for the base to match the existing moulds on the cabinet. The pediment is a hand made copy of one on an equivalent bookcase. Unfortunately the bookcase had been redone in a varnish so I had to strip this and re-French polish it. The secretaire section was in good original condition, so only the leather was replaced. The bookcase was then dulled off and waxed for appearance.
